Note: A brief trip briefing and gear check can be done in the evening.

You leave Kathmandu and drive west to Pokhara, following a scenic highway route through river valleys, terraced hills, and small roadside towns. The journey includes a few short stops for tea, snacks, and stretching, keeping the long drive comfortable.

You arrive in Pokhara by late afternoon, check into the hotel, and rest. The evening is free for a relaxed walk around Lakeside, enjoying views of Phewa Lake. You stay overnight in Pokhara.

  • Drive Duration: 6 to 7 hrs drive
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Pokhara
  • Meals: Breakfast
  • Note: A short flight option is available instead of driving if preferred.

You leave Pokhara early and drive to Samrung, passing terraced hills, river valleys, and rural settlements as the road climbs into the Annapurna foothills.

Your ABC trek finally begins a steady climb through village paths and forest trails toward Chhomrong, one of the most important villages on the ABC route. The day includes uphill sections and stone steps, with changing views as you gain altitude and settle into the mountain pace.

Trek duration: 4 to 5 hours drive + 5 to 6 hours trek

Accommodation: Teahouse in Chhomrong

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Note: It is a long day with repeated uphills, so a slow and steady pace helps.

You leave Chhomrong and descend on long stone steps to the river, then cross the bridge and begin climbing again through shaded forest. The trail moves through Sinuwa and into cooler, denser vegetation as bamboo and rhododendron sections start to dominate the route.

After reaching Bamboo, the path follows the Modi Khola corridor through quiet woodland and riverside trails. The scenery becomes more enclosed and peaceful as you continue toward Dovan, a small settlement in the valley that makes a good stop before the higher, more alpine terrain ahead.

  • Trek duration: 5 to 6 hours
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Dovan
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
  • Note: Expect lots of stone steps early in the day, so pace steadily.

You leave Dovan and continue deeper into the valley as the trail follows the Modi Khola through cool, shaded forest. The route passes Himalaya, with a steady climb on mixed terrain that includes stone steps, narrow paths, and occasional bridge crossings.

As altitude increases, the landscape begins to feel more rugged and alpine, with fewer trees and more open mountain slopes. You reach Deurali, a key stop before entering the Annapurna Sanctuary, and rest early to prepare for the base camp approach the next day.

Trek duration: 5 to 6 hours

Accommodation: Teahouse in Deurali

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Note: Nights get colder here, so keep warm layers ready.

You climb steadily above Deurali as the valley opens and the scenery becomes more alpine. The trail gradually leaves the forest behind, with wider views and a cooler, higher-altitude feel as the route approaches the sanctuary.

You reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC), then continue across the Annapurna Sanctuary floor to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). Arrival at ABC is the trek’s biggest highlight, surrounded by a dramatic amphitheatre of peaks and unforgettable high-mountain views.

  • Trek duration: 5 to 6 hours
  • Accommodation: Teahouse in Annapurna Base Camp
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
  • Note: Temperatures drop quickly at ABC, so keep warm layers accessible.

An early start gives clear mountain views before descending from Annapurna Base Camp through the sanctuary. The trail drops past Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC) and continues down toward Deurali, with the scenery shifting from open alpine terrain back into the Modi Khola valley.

As you lose altitude, forests return, and the air feels warmer and easier. You pass familiar stops along the route and continue through shaded bamboo sections to reach Bamboo, where the lower elevation makes the night noticeably more comfortable after base camp.

Trek duration: 7 to 8 hours

Accommodation: Teahouse in Bamboo

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Note: Trekking poles help reduce knee strain on the long descent.

You leave Bamboo and continue down through forest trails and village sections as the valley becomes greener and warmer. The route passes back through Sinuwa and the river crossings below Chhomrong, with a mix of descents and short uphill stretches that keep the day active.

You reach Jhinu Danda, known for its natural hot springs, and take time to relax and recover beside the river. You continue to the road point and drive back to Pokhara.

  • Trek duration: 5 to 6 hours trek + 3 to 4 hours drive
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Pokhara
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
  • Note: Hot springs are a short walk downhill from Jhinu, so carry sandals and a towel.

You leave Pokhara and drive back to Kathmandu. The journey includes a few short stops for tea, snacks, and stretching, keeping the long drive comfortable.

You arrive in Kathmandu by late afternoon, marking the end of the 9-day Annapurna Base Camp trek itinerary. The evening is free to rest, enjoy a final meal in the city, or do some last-minute shopping around Thamel.
